The Between the Pages Podcast is excited to announce our first-ever BTP Awards!
For the first quarter of 2024, there will be two awards voted by the community, and two awards chosen by judges grading on a rubric. The breakdown is as follows:
Community Voted Awards
Favorite "I love you." Moment (Spoken or Unspoken)
This award will be for the most soon worthy confession of love, whether the words "I love you" appear on the page or not.
Favorite Use of Tropes
For this award, writers will submit their book and select one trope they feel it best represents. Then the community will vote on their favorite!
Judged Awards
Best Original Story/Retelling
This award is for the book that feels the most new and creative--or puts an excellent spin on a familiar tale! Judges will grade submissions on a rubric that includes ideas, voice, structure, characterization, AI, and dialogue/inner voice.
Best Fantasy/Sci-fi Award
This will be awarded to the Fantasy or Sci-fi book (of any sub-genre) that grades the highest on a rubric that includes worldbuilding, magic system (if applicable), ideas, voice, structure, characterization, AI, and dialogue/inner voice.
All submissions will be checked for AI by our team of judges. Any submission that exceeds the pre-determined limit will not be considered for the awards.
Meet the Judges
Manna has had a love affair with writing since she was twelve, but it was only after helping a friend with her novel in 2016 that her own fire for writing fiction was rekindled. Now, not only is she a chef and a marine scientist, she's also an award-winning writing development tutor! Her favorite genre is fantasy and sci-fi, but she does love a good adventure, and is known to be a sucker for an angsty romance with a twist (and a HEA, of course!). This variety has often left her wanting for a book that has all three...so she decided to write the books she wants to read with the hope that others will join her for the ride!
Lovingly known as "Pebbles", Desiree is the glue that keeps the podcast from scattering. Scheduling, graphic design, merchandise, and keeping "Shawnathan" humble all while raising six children, Des is the Between the Pages Podcast's well-known and well-loved magic behind the scenes. Desiree reads many genres including fantasy, horror, mystery, spicy, not spicy--if its fiction, she's interested!
Megan G. Mossgrove is a homeschooling mom of two from Texas, USA. She is a poet, writer, and book editor working on her debut fantasy romance novel, The Wingbreaker. She’s most likely to be found in the garden, reading a book, or spending way too much time posting memes in the Between the Pages Podcast discord. Megan reads widely and has a TBR stack that's likely as tall as she is by now.
